Project Description

TIn 2001, Tataskweyak Cree Nation (TCN) and War Lake First Nation (WLFN) formed a partnership, the Cree Nation Partners, because of their shared interest in future hydroelectric development that would impact traditional lands. The Cree Nation Partners, in conjunction with Fox Lake Cree Nation and York Factory First Nation, have worked with Manitoba Hydro to create a business partnership that will jointly own the Keeyask Generating Station.

Newton Mechanical Inc. is committed to the enhancement of northern communities, and seeks to achieve this goal through a number of business initiatives. Our intention is to train and work with the communities for a long-term structured partnership. Through this business venture, the opportunities through the provisions of training will increase the skills of the local members and provide knowledge in several different fields / aspects of construction. The results will be a source, within the communities to have more skilled and experienced members to maintain and strengthen local infrastructure.

The CNP strategy is to work with our JV partner on the following:

• Develop training and employment programs for the local members to service / maintain their own local communities.

• Enhance and strengthen the capacity of the CNP institutions. Strengthen the infrastructure of the community.

• Provide training to local members as qualified tradesman so they can excel to new limits gaining employment anywhere in the world.

• Develop procedures together for planning / maintaining the local community’s infrastructure.
