Troy Smith - Owner / General manager

Troy Smith joined Newton Mechanical / Electrical INC.’s management team in May of 2011 and was quickly promoted to General Manager in February 2012. With over 12 years experience in Industrial Mechanical projects Troy has an impressive background in Quality Control and has been a representative working for clients such as PCS (Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan), Nexen Chemicals Inc., Simplot Canada and Manitoba Hydro Generating Station (Wuskwatim). Along with his background and knowledge Troy is implementing new quality control procedures for Newton Mechanical / Electrical INC.

Troy is experienced with managing large projects from 1 – 16 million dollars and is dedicated to providing high quality workmanship, through his ability to manage and schedule manpower and materials.

Shawn Smith - Project Manager / Safety Officer

Shawn Smith is a Project Manager as well as the company Safety Officer for Newton Mechanical / Electrical INC. Shawn has been in the construction industry for 24 years with record of successfully overseeing all phases of multimillion-dollar construction, infrastructure, demolition and environmental projects for government and private-sector clients. Shawn has work experience in many different job descriptions such as Laborer, Foreman, Superintendent, and Project Manager. With 8-years dealing in mechanical installation, 16 years in Infrastructure-civil projects in the province of British Columbia, and assisting and overseeing the installation of several residential subdivisions. Shawn also is experienced in site preparation for many large shopping malls and various wastewater, water treatment plants/lagoons across Canada. Shawn has been in charge of all safety documentation in the field. IE: Confined space, Drilling and blasting, Heavy Construction Civil Work Etc. Shawn has also helped Implement Safe Work Procedures and practices in this field and on recent Mb. Hydro Projects. Shawn has full Certification as a CSO.

Shawn has many hobbies and enjoys fishing, Hunting, Snowmobiling, Hockey and Golf.

Ashley Mushumanski - OJT and Procurement Agent

Ashley Mushumanski joined Northern Maintenance Services in 2015 as Site Procurement and OJT at the Keeyask camp. She has been involved with creating and implementing educational curriculums around the world. She has experience in project coordination, acquisition and negotiation for a large variety of stakeholders across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Ashley holds degrees in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Environmental Science. She brings a plethora of experience and knowledge to the group and her passion for learning makes her a true fit in her role at Northern Maintenance Services.

Her hobbies include: snowboarding, scuba diving, and traveling the world.
John Bola - Superintendent

John Bola started with Newton Mechanical/Electrical in 2013 as a Supervisor on the Leaf Rapids Water Treatment Plant. Currently he is working on the Keeyask Generating Station Project as a Superintendent coordinating the maintenance program for the Keeyask camp, Waste Water and Water Treatment plants
.
John Bola started his career as a Pipefitter Welder working in refrigeration, structural and mechanical fabrication. His goal was to work in the mechanical field which he fulfilled by establishing himself as a Journeyman Pipefitter Welder. For 32 years John has worked in the industrial and commercial mechanical trade, such as Waskwatum Generating Station Project, accumulating knowledge to contribute to whomever he is working with.
Hobbies: John enjoys boating, fishing and snowmobiling.

Paul Avila - Site Superintendent

Paul started his journey in the construction industry with Derksen Mechanical Services in 2006, where he became a Red Seal Journeyman Steamfitter. While working with DMS Paul gained many skills as a precise and accurate steamfitter who demonstrated a great work ethic, and worked well in a team environment. Paul is proficient in all aspects of his designated trade with proven ability to provide expert recommendations in building and troubleshooting mechanical applications. Paul Avila joined the Newton Mechanical/Electrical team in May 2013 as site foremen at the Leaf Rapids Water Treatment Plant project in Northern Manitoba. Paul was transferred to the Keeyask Hydro Camp Project in April 2014 to be the superintendent for Northern Maintenance Services.

At the Keeyask project Paul has demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, and relationship skills. He works effectively with the client to review job progress, address outstanding issues, providing solutions, and ensures Northern Maintenance Services is providing the highest level of service to the client.

Scott Pridmore - Safety Officer

I have over 30 years’ experience in construction and I have held various different supervision positions in many aspects of industrial construction. I made my way up to the Fort McMurray oil and gas industry in 2002 and as a son of a Vancouver firefighter I showed a strong interest in the field of industrial safety and have been a safety coordinator since 2005. I have worked as an HSE advisor at most of the major oil and gas plants, upgraders and refineries in Alberta. I have experience in the mining industry in British Columbia, Labrador and Quebec. I have hydroelectricity experience at LMRP in Ontario, I am excited to be back in the hydro industry here at Keeyask.

I consider myself to be a “boots to the ground” safety advisor with strong industry experience and quality people skills. I have a passion for safety and believe that we all have the ability and desire to work safely and to go home at the end of our shift in good health to spend quality time with our loved ones.
Rhanda Dixon - Office Clerk

Rhanda joined the Newton Mechanical team in January, 2012. Her role is to provide a professional customer service attitude, greet visitors in a professional manner, answer phones and direct calls, accounts payable, and multiple office duties.

Rhanda moved to the Keeyask Generating Station/ Keeyask Maintenance Services Joint Venture in August of 2015. Where her role is managing the Shuttle Service that Northern Maintenance offers. Transporting staff from multi sub-contractors to and from site. She also handles all the work orders that come in for the camp repairs and maintenance and multiple office duties. Before Rhanda joined Newton Mechanical, she was a department manager for Safeway, Starbucks, for 5 years. Where she learned a lot in management, sales, customer service, diversity, team work. Rhanda has had training in WHMIS, First Aid/CPR.

In her spare time, Rhanda likes to go camping, fishing and attending the fitness classes that Keeyask offers.
