Project Description

This project will be completed for Manitoba Hydro under the Bipole 3 Converter Station Project. This phase of this project includes the following:

The supply of all design, and engineering of water storage facilities and a potable water treatment plant for a 600 man start up construction camp near Gillam, MB. This design- build system consisted of a domestic water filtration system that is automated and controlled by a monitoring PLC program. Domestic and fire water storage consists of 4 equally sized above-ground steel welded, and insulated tanks. Each system distributes water to the 600 man camp through separate distribution pipes.

The manufacture, construction, testing and commissioning of a potable water treatment plant (“WTP”) at the start up camp (S2) for the Bipole 3 Converter Station Project. The second phase of this project includes the onsite installation of the above water treatment facilities.

Project Description

This project was completed for Manitoba Hydro under the Keeyask Infrastructure Project. The first phase of this project included the following: The supply of all design, and engineering of water storage facilities and a potable water treatment plant for a 200 man start up construction camp near Gillam, MB. This design-build system consisted of a domestic water filtration system that is automated and controlled by a monitoring PLC program. It also houses a fire water storage preengineered building facility with a 2 hour storage capacity. Both systems distribute water to the 200 man camp through a common distribution pipe. The manufacture, construction, testing and commissioning of a potable water treatment plant (“WTP”) at the start up camp for the Keeyask Infrastructure Project. The second phase of this project includes the onsite installation of the above water treatment facilities.

Project Description

The work to be prepared includes various piping within two new buildings (Hauled Wastewater and Leachate) and within the existing plant. Our scope of work included the placement of various pumps, boilers, sampling equipment, snowmelt systems, and the replacemnt of existing sludge pumps. Work included with sheet metal ductwork, heat recovery ventilators insulation and a Building Management Systems, (BMS).

STEINBACH PUMPING STATION UPGRADE

Project Description

The work consisted of replacement of stainless steel process piping, valves and vertical turbine pumps in the existing facility. Work included in the building addition consisted of installation of a chlorine gas feeding and control system for potable water and installation of a in-floor heating system.

Project Description

This project included an addition to an existing Water Treatment Plant Building. Work consisted of fabrication of a packaged water treatment unit, modification to the process piping, installation of pumps and chemical feed systems. Specific works included mechanical upgrades to the HVAC, plumbing and fuel oil system complete with TSSA inspection, and commissioning of the WTP as per Ontario Drinking Water Standards.

INSTALL AND 600 MAN CAMP

Project Description

Newton Mechanical was involved in 3 major mechanical projects in Wuskwatim, the new water treatment plant, the Pre Engineering Buildings and the new 600 man camp. Although there were three different general contractors, all projects eventually tied together into one working system. We were responsible for the construction of the water treatment plant from the top slab up, as well as all the mechanical works for the new 600 man camp and Pre Engineering building. The crucial part of the project was the finishing deadline to ensure all would be operational when the water treatment plant was ready to go online. With ongoing new construction, we also took on the role for Manitoba Hydro of all ongoing preventative maintenance for the plumbing and piping systems. Manitoba Hydro also enlisted Newton Mechanical to install their temporary pump house and water treatment plant. With having Newton Mechanical involved in all mechanical works the schedule was easily maintained to bring a multi functioning and complete mechanical system online.
